In late winter or early spring each year, our menfolk usually spend a week-end away – in locations such as the Black Mountains of Gwent, the Brecon Beacons, the Mendip Hills or Dartmoor – staying in bunk-house or B&B style accommodation and walking, talking, having the odd beer and good food, and sharing good company and fellowship with a Christian slant. Where possible members of the group will seek to join a local Church for Sunday morning service, or else hold informal worship in the accommodation.
St Francis’ Men’s weekend is a great opportunity for some chill-out “bloke” time, and to explore the Christian faith in a very light and informal way, with some great “outdoor” experiences too!
Over the years our men’s group has visited various venues including:
- Llanthony Priory, Black Mountains, Gwent (in at least five different years);
- Postbridge, Dartmoor, Devon;
- Priddy, Mendip Hills, Somerset;
- Woolhope, Herefordshire;
- Llangorse, Brecon Beacons.
Men’s Weekend 2019:
Sadly the Men’s Weekend 2019 is now over. Based at Llanthony Priory in the Black Mountains of Gwent again this year, menfolk from St Francis joined friends to enjoy a very pleasant weekend of walking, fellowship, reflection, touring local churches and cathedrals, and good food and beer over the first weekend of February.
Undaunted by the snow-capped hills of the Black Mountains a number of long walks were enjoyed, and as usual a hearty feast of curry, chilli, cheese and beverages was enjoyed on Saturday evening.
On this page are a selection of the pictures taken on the 2019 Weekend.
